The Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution (formerly S-CAR) at George Mason University’s Korea Campus (Mason Korea), invites applications for a Term Assistant Professor position beginning in August 2021. The position is non-tenure-track with an initial term of one year, with the possibility of renewal and term promotion.  We seek applicants who are committed to dynamic and innovative undergraduate teaching, research, practice and service, and who will actively contribute to the continued development of our growing undergraduate program at Mason Korea. 


Qualifications.  The Carter School seeks applicants whose work strengthens or complements the School’s current conflict resolution course offerings at Mason Korea. We invite highly qualified applicants who have received their Ph.D. by June 2021, with a strong preference for candidates with a degree in a field relevant to conflict analysis and resolution or peace and conflict studies.

Particular attention will be given to scholars with a strong teaching record, preferably with experience in experiential learning, online learning, field-based courses, and/or the use of innovative classroom pedagogies.  Teaching will include both lower and upper-division undergraduate peace and conflict resolution courses for a diverse student body. We seek candidates with innovative scholarly approaches to peace and conflict resolution who can engage directly with contemporary conflicts through deep analysis, intervention, education, consultation and other forms of practice. 


Responsibilities.  Responsibilities for this position include teaching four courses per semester (consisting of conflict resolution core and elective courses) and developing curricula to meet the unique needs of a diverse student body at Mason Korea.  This Term Faculty position has a primary responsibility for teaching, but the candidate will have an opportunity to fully participate in the intellectual and research life of the school and enjoy potential for promotion and advancement based on successful teaching, scholarship and service.
